How to wash and care for yoga clothes
10 care tips for yoga clothing
Learn how to wash your yoga leggings to keep them looking like new and lasting longer. We've put together 10 tips for caring for your synthetic yoga clothes (recycled or not)!
1. AFTER A SWEATY EXERCISE, HANG YOUR YOGA CLOTHES UP TO DRY. Don't throw them in the laundry basket or leave them in the bag longer than necessary!
2. IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO WASH THE LEGGINGS? Often it is enough to air the yoga clothes.
3. WASH LESS! Our favorite tip for many reasons: - Washing less saves energy and water. - It extends the life of clothes. - It minimizes the penetration of microfibers into the water! - It saves time!
4. WASH WITH OTHER SYNTHETIC MATERIALS. It is better not to wash the leggings together with cotton clothes, as cotton residues can get stuck in the yoga clothes and affect, for example, breathability.
5. USE A LAUNDRY BAG FOR MICROFIBERS. If you wash your synthetic clothes in one load, it's easy to use a laundry bag like Guppyfriend to prevent microfibers from getting on the clothes.
6. WASH COLD. 30 or 40 degrees is sufficient.
7. ONLY WASH FULL LOADS. This saves energy and money.
8. AVOID FABRIC SOFTENER! It can damage the spandex fibers and we don't think you need it anyway because it's bad for the environment.
9. CHOOSE AN ECO-FRIENDLY DETERGENT. And remember: less is more!
10. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY! Line drying is by far the best way to dry your yoga clothes. It's better for your clothes and for the environment. If you don't have a way to dry your clothes outside, it's just as easy to hang them up to dry inside the house. Avoid the tumble dryer as it can damage the fabric and uses way too much energy.
