Yoga headstand stool
We tested a yoga headstand stool from Edelkraft and made a step-by-step guide on how to do a headstand with a yoga stool. We'll show you how you can try a headstand easily and safely.
Have you always wanted to do a headstand but are afraid of falling, injuring yourself, or have another reason why inversions are outside your comfort zone? The headstand stool was designed to make headstands accessible to everyone, without the risk of injury from uncontrolled jumps that most yoga beginners are prone to. It is a tool that distributes the weight evenly across the shoulders and takes the pressure off the neck and spine.
We tested a headstand stool from Edelkraft with Michi. Why did we choose Edelkraft and not the market leader FeetUP? We believe that Siya has produced the most sustainable yoga stool: the legs are made of FSC-certified wood and the cover is made of recycled nylon called ECONYL®. What we like best is that the product is made entirely in Germany and is backed by a small team of 4 people from Berlin.
How do I get up?
- Place your hand on the edge of the chair, reach down to your knees, and place your head in the hole in the cushion.
- Bring your toes as close to the chair as possible. When you feel ready, lift your legs and pull your knees to your chest.
3. Once you've found your balance, you can bring your feet up towards the roof (or sky!). You'll find that it's much easier to keep your balance than in the classic headstand! Try to drop your head towards the ground. We recommend placing the stool against the wall, especially if you're just starting out. If you're still nervous, get a friend or family member to help you!
What do we think about a headstand stool?
PROS
+ A headstand stool is a safe form of inversion for neck injuries
+ Inversions are the chair's main function, but it can also be used for other asanas. For creative yogis, experimenting with asanas can be a lot of fun!
CONS
- The chair alone does not do everything, you still need physical strength and strong arms
- It is relatively expensive
- It needs space for storage
- If you are an advanced yogi, we believe you will not get much further in your practice!
In general, we believe that a headstand stool cannot replace traditional headstand practice unless there are medical reasons that prevent you from practicing the headstand.
